[Lilith drew in a deep breath and flopped back on her bed with the tome next to her so she didn't have to look at the thing while explaining this. Why was Silent asking her, of all people?]
You know how in the winter, a lake will freeze over with a thick amount of ice? Humans learned that it was easier to move over the ice by affixing a metal blade lengthwise to the bottom of their feet with the blade's edge down against the ice. Instead of sliding over the ice with no traction, the blade on an ice skate carves a little into the ice allowing for control. Like the difference between scratching at the ground with human hands trying to pull yourself across it and digging your claws in to do the same.
Humans have developed both a form of dance on the ice because of ice skates called figure skating, and a team sport that uses sticks to slide a puck across the ice with the goal of getting that puck into the net on the other team's side called hockey.
It's not unheard of for a human to accidentally kill another in a hockey fights - they do effectively have knives on their feet - but it's extremely rare. I think such instances would be a lot more frequent with werewolves, especially if one got too angry.
Someone could frenzy. [If humans get angry enough that they use the stilettos on their feet against one another, how much more likely is a fight between Garou... or other werewolves, she guesses.]

But my alpha said we shouldn't play hockey.
[She sounds a lot more relaxed now. She knows what they're talking about again!]

Doesn't sound very important to her.] ...are the sticks necessary?
